OVERVIEW
Mercy Corps sought to transform its face-to-face WASH and SCALE training into a highly participatory digital programme. The solution needed to retain the integrity of the original content while delivering 14 modules in both English and French. Designed for adult learners, including many non-native English and French speakers, the course had to be flexible (self-directed or facilitated), interactive, and accessible, with a strong focus on inspiring behaviour change.
ACTION
Working closely with subject matter experts, we aligned learning outcomes to the original training and reimagined in-person exercises for digital delivery. We developed custom animations, branching scenarios, and applied activities to preserve participation and practical skill-building. Reflection journals and structured pause points were embedded to encourage deeper learning, alongside a comprehensive facilitator guide to support cohort delivery. Despite complex interactions, all modules were developed to WCAG AA standards to ensure accessibility for screen reader and keyboard users.
IMPACT
The programme launched successfully and was met with strong internal endorsement from Mercy Corps. Since release, it has been widely adopted by humanitarian practitioners and, as of February 2026, has received over 100 reviews and a 4.8/5 rating on DisasterReady, reflecting its quality and impact.
