OVERVIEW
Plan International and UNHCR commissioned the development of a three-part e-learning series with the addition of two animated stories which focused on ending child marriage within child protection (CP) and gender-based violence (GBV) programming. The series was designed as a foundational learning journey, equipping practitioners with the knowledge, attitudes and practical approaches needed to mitigate risk, prevent child marriage and respond effectively in humanitarian and development settings. While primarily aimed at CP and GBV staff, the course also needed to resonate with and be accessible to professionals across sectors.
ACTION
We designed and developed the full three-part series in Articulate Rise, creating a cohesive, mobile-responsive learning experience with a clear and consistent visual identity across all modules. The structure and navigation were carefully planned to ensure an intuitive learner journey and a seamless progression through the content. Working closely with subject matter experts, we transformed detailed technical material into accessible, structured learning pathways that balance foundational knowledge with practical application. Scenario-based activities, knowledge checks, and reflective prompts were embedded throughout to encourage active engagement and meaningful real-world connection. To deepen understanding and emotional impact, we co-scripted and produced custom, scenario-based animations using Adobe After Effects. These animated stories sensitively portrayed girls experiencing gender-based violence and child marriage, helping learners connect with the human realities behind the theory. Through carefully crafted motion graphics, character design, pacing, and visual storytelling, we created narratives that were both respectful and impactful.
IMPACT
The result is a professional, interactive e-learning series that delivers essential knowledge in an engaging and accessible format. By combining strong instructional design with thoughtful digital production, the course strengthens practitioner confidence, promotes more effective programming and supports coordinated efforts to end child marriage across sectors.
