Good teaching relies on more than just a lesson plan. It takes subject knowledge and expertise, clear purpose, and time to prepare – and time is the one thing most teachers don’t have. That’s exactly why every UnfoldEd unit comes with a comprehensive teacher guide to cover the basics and beyond.
Each guide has been carefully designed and thoroughly researched to give teachers the right level of information: enough to feel informed, prepared, and well-equipped to teach each unit of our PSHE curriculum, but not so much that it feels like homework. So when the inevitable ‘Who…?’, ‘What…?’, ‘Why…?’ or ‘How…?’ comes up, they’ve got what they need to respond with ease.
Informed by experts, written by teachers
Strong subject knowledge is key to delivering effective PSHE lessons. But many teachers tell us they’ve had little to no training or CPD in this area and often feel unsure, especially when covering unfamiliar or sensitive topics. It’s not a lack of care or effort; it’s a lack of time and access to clear, reliable support.
That’s where our teacher guides come in.
Packed with key information from expert sources, leading charities, and trusted subject specialists, our guides are written in plain, teacher-friendly language and organised to match the flow of the unit, with direct links to each lesson. Our learning design and creative design teams have worked together to design a document that not only looks great (if we do say so ourselves!) but is also structured to make it easy for teachers to get the information they need, when they need it.
Our guides make it easy for teachers to get the information they need, when they need it.
Every guide includes key facts, clear explanations, common misconceptions, and practical suggestions to help teachers lead thoughtful, confident conversations in the classroom. There are also safeguarding notes, a glossary of terms, and links to further reading for those who want to explore the topic in more depth.
Helping schools and families to work together
We know that children don’t stop learning when the lesson ends. Parents and carers play an important part in helping their child to make sense of new ideas, ask questions, and put their newfound knowledge into practice.
That’s why we encourage teachers to share our guides with families, too. They offer a simple way to explain what’s being taught, spark conversations at home, and give parents and carers the chance to reinforce key messages and good habits.
We also know that children can come home with some pretty big (and sometimes unexpected!) questions. Our guides are there to help families feel informed and confident when those conversations come up, so they’re never left feeling unsure of how to respond.
